Full Speed Ahead

"It paws fiercely, rejoicing in its strength, and charges into the fray. It laughs at fear, afraid of nothing; it does not shy away from the sword...In frenzied excitement it eats up the ground; it cannot stand still when the trumpet sounds." Job 39:21-22, 24

I read Job 39 three times the other day without it making any sense to me. I had been asked to read it before meeting with my mentor (along with another friend) and nothing really stood out to me until she went over it with us. Interpreting Scripture isn't one of my gifts, but I love when other people speak through the Bible to me. She told us her favorite part of the chapter was about the horse in verses 19-25. We were then instructed to watch the movie The Secretariat as our homework before we met again.

Though I can't say I'm a huge horse person, the last scene was incredibly powerful for me when viewed through the context of this verse (it is referenced in the movie as well). As the horse literally obliterates the competition (and continues to hold the speed record to this day at the Belmont Stakes), the verse is being recited and all I could think of was how I want that to be me. I want to be a person that not only can't stand still when God calls me to move, but that I run with abandon and without fear. So that is my prayer is week, this month, and this year. Even though there are a lot of unknowns for me right now, I haven't lost hope that God is calling me, and all of us, to really big things.

Kinda wish I could give every one of you a hug right now, I'm just in one of those moods :)

  1. I've seen The Secretariet, and had no idea that those words were directly from the book of Job. I love that movie, and now I love it even more! Such a powerful set of words, and I too pray that over myself this year. To run in the direction He is calling me with no abandon!

  2. Sara B., this is soooo beautiful & inspiring! Ever since Holiday sent it to me, it has been speaking to me, 'loudly' as well! To hear you echo these same sentiments, is a very powerful thing. I thank God for you & all He is accomplishing in your life! What an honor to watch Him work in my baby girl!!! xoxo

  4. This is such a beautiful scripture, and such an encouragement! Not a horse person either, but I love how stunningly it describes the way to run and charge what's in front of us; never figured horses could be such an inspiration :)

Happy to have found your blog!

  5. Your words are so moving! I've copied down your quote, "I want to be a person that not only can't stand still when God calls me to move, but that I run with abandon and without fear" to put on my desk as a reminder to make God number one in my life no matter how scary it might be. Thank you for sharing your thoughts, you're such an inspiration to be a better Christian.

    xoxo,
