True Food Kitchen

Hi friends! Happy Thursday to you. So I was thinking of introducing a little bit of local love on my blog. Now that I'm living in a new(ish) place and am loving being back here and re-discovering Southern California, I figured I would share my experiences and reviews with you! Not sure how often I'll do it, but between the restaurants, stores, and salons I've been to, I already have lots I would love to tell you about!

Sooo...this week is Restaurant Week in Newport Beach (goes through the 29th) and my friend and I wanted to pick a place on the list to try out. Both of us had already been to True Food Kitchen in Fashion Island, but felt like being healthy so we went with that option. To be honest, we didn't end up doing the Restaurant Week tasting menu, but our dinner was AMAZING. We started with drinks (that we mostly shared) and went with the Cucumber Citrus Skinny Margarita and the Prana (grapefruit martini). For an appetizer we had the Herb Hummus which was awesome. Then Shayda ordered a quinoa beet salad that's no longer on the menu (they recommended the Mediterranean Chopped as a substitute) that was incredible. I didn't think I could love quinoa that much. I ordered the Ahi Sliders and chose to do half sweet potato hash/half kale salad for my side. I'm not the biggest fish person so while I would have maybe preferred beef sliders instead, they were still delicious. But my favorite part might have been the sweet potato hash. Yum! The kale salad was really good too.

*next time I'll try and remember to take my camera along with me*

For someone who is somewhat scared of veggies and could eat a quesadilla or burger for every meal, I am glad a place like True Food exists. With their local, fresh, and healthy food (and plenty of vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options), you leave feeling like you did your body good, without sacrificing any taste. My next items to try at True Food are dessert and brunch!

Have you guys been? Or do you have healthy restaurants by you that you love?

Have a fabulous day!

xoxo

  1. I love love love True Foods. They have a couple of them in Scottsdale. I don't eat gluten, and their GF pizza is great, and their gluten free molten chocolate cake dessert is beyond!

  2. That quinoa looks/sounds incredible! Just curious -- was the hummus bean-free (ie. zucchini hummus) or more traditional?

    1. I'm not sure actually, the menu didn't specify. Kind of tasted like normal hummus to me but it was super delicious! And yeah that quinoa salad was incredible! Miss you Monica!

  3. Oh I miss the food in America! I'm a vegetarian and it's hard eating out here. And the cocktails? Yumm! The grapefruit one sounds delish!
