Completed List

If you guys are anything like me, you're obsessed with To Do Lists. Making them, checking them off, obsessing over them in your head, constantly adding new things to it. This past month mine has been out of control. For every one I checked off, I felt like I added at least 3 more. Yuck. It's easy to feel consumed by the future and everything that needs to get done, no matter how many times you tell yourself to "take it one day at a time."

But recently I've tried doing something new. Partly thanks to the new 'Reminders' app my iPhone added for me during the big update, I have a new love for checking and rejoicing over the "Completed List." When you check an item off your list, it doesn't just delete it, rather it sends it to a completed list showing you everything you did and the day you did it on. One night when I had a particularly stressful day, I chose to look over everything I had accomplished that day, and instead of feeling stressed and hopeless, I felt successful and proud. I allowed myself a moment to remember that I was getting things done and that everything that was on my list for tomorrow would eventually get done too.

So I just wanted to encourage you to spend a moment each day focusing on all the things you accomplished that day rather than all the things you have yet to accomplish. Let that give you the reminder and strength you need to know you can tackle the next day.

"Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:34

Give yourselves grace today! And have a very happy weekend.

  3. Portland misses you and your wisdom :) Funny-that was part of the sermon from last week! So glad you are getting settled in and "completing" things, day by day (hallelujah that is the way we are asked to live and not with forty year plans hour by hour!).

  4. I haven't tried the Reminders app, but I love the Do It Tomorrow app. It lets you move things to the next day and cross things out you've completed. You should check it out!

  6. That completed list would make me feel really good! At work I always put my list for the day on a sticky note and attach it to the bottom of my monitor. I like having it in front of me and crossing things off as I accomplish them.

Hope your enjoying your new place!

  9. You are so right - I pulled out my phone and went through all the checked off boxes. What a busy day! A wonderful way to remind yourself that you accomplished so much, when it seems so little. (Thank you to the folks at Apple for making it so easy for us to-do list obsessed people).
