I heard this song for the first time the other day and fell in love. Not only do I already have a soft spot in my heart for Darius Rucker, but he's singing a message that I wholeheartedly believe in and always have fun thinking about. The main chorus line sings, "Thank God for all I missed, because it led me here to this."
It especially hit me when he said "or the college I wanted to go to, till I got that letter," because that's part of my story. I will never forget how I felt when I didn't get into Pepperdine. I thought my life was ending. But then I went to Point Loma where I met some of my absolute best friends, got the chance to study abroad in Rome which were some of the most amazing months of my life, met a guy that ultimately led me to Oregon, where I would end up walking away from both of the reasons I came here: him and grad school. Then I look at my life now: my friends, my church, my job, where I'm living, and the amazing person who I'm sharing my heart with. Thank God for all I missed, because it led me here to this!
Do you ever play back the moments of your life and trace them to a single heartbreak or disappointment? Isn't it amazing how in hindsight some of the worst things that happen to us lead to the best things? It's next to impossible to have that kind of perspective when you're going through it (at least for me), but it does help to remember that "nothing's a mistake" and the next let down may be just the first page to the best chapter of my life.
